The therapeutic process is more than the therapist getting to know you, it is just as important for you to get to know the therapist. I am first generation American, born to Guatemalan parents and am a proud queer and trans-nonbinary human, finding my way around this binary society we are all born into. My passion for helping others first came in the form of working within the educational field, working with students with developmental disabilities. Following this, I chose a counseling degree. While going through graduate school at Webster University, we were encouraged to seek therapy for ourselves to better understand what it’s like to be on the other side of the room.
It was then that I realized just how difficult it was to find a therapist who truly understood who I was, no matter how compassionate and understanding they are. I subsequently went to 2 therapists before finding one who is also a member of the queer community. I have lived experience of what it is like to seek services as a queer, trans-nonbinary, person of color. Because of this, and much more, I understand the reality that access to affirming care is political, especially for those of us who experience intersectionality within our identities.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies, slowly chipping away at a giant to-be-read list, and consuming all the Star Wars content possible. Above all else, I hope to meet you in session as our authentic selves, and partners in healing.
